Comprehensible input is the idea that the best way to learn a language is to get as much understandable material in your target language. Ideally the material should be slightly out of your comfort zone.
You will find it easier to use the language in real life if your [[learning]] environment looks like real life.
Learning the rules of grammar in great detail is less helpful than it seems. No native speaker thinks about the rules of grammar: they inhabit them. If you have to think about the rules it will slow you in a real situation.
